Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" + Gnome 3
[2011-03-15]GNOME3 Team makes Gnome 3 packages available for Ubuntu 11.04
Here's the "executive summary":
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
After reboot, choose your user at the login screen, and then choose "Ubuntu GNOME Shell Desktop" from the session dropdown at the bottom of the screen.
For more details you can find the PPA here: https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3
Just a hint: If you, like me, have perverse and peculiar window configuration preferences, like sloppy focus (i.e. focus on mouse-over), or like shading the window when the title bar is double-clicked instead of maximising, it seems that Gnome 3's Gnome Control Center doesn't offer window configuration yet. So configure your window preferences in Unity first, before installing Gnome Shell.
